Welcome
to Our Factory

This
is our factory just outside Vordingborg, Denmark, about 60 miles
south of Copenhagen. We started making shoes just after World War
II, and since 1974, we have been making
our Jaco Marine® line of boat shoes. DECKMOCS® was first
introduced in 1992 as the successor to our ever popular Jaco Marine®
line. We are still owned and operated by the Engelbredt family who
founded the factory more than half a century ago.

It
all starts with our genuine ox hides that are individually selected
and tested for quality and strength. If just one hide doesn't pass
our stringent criteria, the whole badge will be rejected and returned
to the supplier. (This is extremely rare, since our suppliers already
know not to send us anything but the best quality hides).

After
the hides are cut to size, the actual pieces of leather are sewn
together, forming the shaft (top part) of the shoe. Here, Niels
shows us how it is done.

Not
everything can be sewn on a machine. To get the absolute best possible
result, part of the sewing is done by hand. Anne is one of
the best there is. It's a tedious and time consuming job, but a
must
if you want to make the finest boat shoe in the world.
Next,
the shoe is stretched over a mold, to begin creating their shape.
Another process that can only be done by hand. Jens, in the
picture, has perfected this skill for many years.
After
that, a hydraulic press forms the shoe by literally pressing it
into shape.

Now
we go high-tech by applying glue to the bottom of the shoe, using
a machine designed specifically for that purpose. This gets us ready
for the next step, mounting the actual sole.
This
is our DECKMOCS® sole. It is probably the most advanced sole
of any boat shoe today. After all, some of the leading Danish sailors
helped us design it. Every part of its design serves a functional
purpose, ensuring you the ultimate comfort level along with the
best possible grip on deck, as well as anywhere else.

Once
again, we are back to where no machine can replace human expertise.
Here Svend, our sole mounting specialist, gives us a demonstration
of how his craft is done.

It's
not as easy as you may think. It takes quite a bit of
practice to get it just right.
After
a trip through another hydraulic press where the soles are attached
permanently to the upper, the inside sole and the laces are mounted,
once again by hand.
Here's
the end result, what we believe to be the world's finest boat shoe.
In fact, we're so sure of this, that if you can find something better,
we suggest you buy them instead. In Europe, DECKMOCS® are available
at finer shoe retailers, in the US and Canada, DECKMOCS® are
available by mail order, exclusively through our agent, Scanimex,
Inc. in Oceanside, California.

Your
DECKMOCS® are now stored, but often not for very long.
The demand is high, and since we are a small factory we can only
make a limited amount of them. So please bear with us if your model
or size is temporarily sold out. Once you put them on you'll realize
it was worth the wait.
The
final step before your DECKMOCS® leave our factory, Karina in
the office taking orders from and coordinating shipments to our
distributors all over Europe (and now also the USA).
Your
DECKMOCS® are now on their way to the airport in Copenhagen,
where they'll be loaded on a plane destined for sunny California.
There Scanimex, the exclusive distributor for the USA & Canada,
keeps
an inventory, ready to ship your new DECKMOCS®, usually within
72 hours from the time you order.
